Hoping the forecast of rain comes good on the weekend as we are feeding stock again.....a rainy weekend would be good for sewing though......

Gone bush.....

We've talked about it for awhile but finally went bush with Deb @ Frog Cottage Designs.............
to a very different part of the world.........
Thank goodness Deb met me on the main road as it a myriad of roads in all directions with very limited sign postings.........maybe a car bonnet written on with paint etc.......
It's a  wild bush area that doesn't grow a lot of feed and doesn't see a lot of rain but it's what is under the ground.............home of the black opal.........while I didn't go to Lighting Ridge I did go to another part of the opal fields.......Grawin, Glengarry, Sheepyards area............
The girls picked a turtle up on the main road and kept it over night before releasing it into a dam the next morning...........
such white dirt............opal dirt.......
quirky buildings........all "made do".......recycled heaven here.............
no electricity, town water or plumbing in most of the area...........lots of generators and collect there own water..........they do have mobile service now days............
red on top of the ground and white is the opal dirt from under ground............
lots of rocks........
one of the opal dirt dumps..........
One of the 3 pubs in the area the Glengarry Hilton............like no other Hilton in the world I am sure..........full of character and colourful characters though..........
this is pretty much an area you do what you want but the mining rules do apply.........
I did some stitching with Deb and on the car trip..............yes I know cream not the right colour to have in a dusty place but no dramas the quilt will get washed when it is finished..........and it's no dustier then home anyway............
sorting thru a handful of rocks...........
trying to work out what I am supposed to be looking for............
Yes I had to climb in and out this ladder..............OMG........that is the worst part..............
This is the bin that brings the dirt to the surface............forgot to take a pic on the top but it dumps straight into a truck............
tunnels running here and there............
so white..........
wow what an experience...........did I find anything........that you will never know......
BUT we had a great time and sure want to go visit again..........
thanks Mr Frog Cottage and Deb for having us...........

Another major EPP quilt - woops........

I resisted when Sandy @ Shiralee Stitches had this as a BOM as I just couldn't sign up at the time but now she has released it as a pattern..... I managed to get the same backing fabric she used but I am going to use my stash for the rest.....
"Shiralee Elegance"......just beautiful...... Pattern kit includes all the templates and papers to make the quilt....  so I am all set to start... Just need a few more finished projects first.......
couldn't resist these fabrics either.......

60 degrees of fun finished........

The "60 degrees of fun" quilt started here..in 2013............playing with Googy Girl............
the fabrics are Denyse Schmidt and all from the Picnic and Fairground range
I actually finished it last month sitting in a motel.............hence the motel bed photos..............I didn't want to share until after Nundle to surprise Googy Girl...........
Quilted by the lovely Jewells about 18months ago I just lagged terribly with the binding........
And the binding was not too bad to attach and so pleased I kept it zigzag............
very effective edging..........
Shez helped me hold it up at GDITC............it's not a huge quilt but I love it...........
thanks for the fun and friendship Googy shared in this quilt ....

GDITC Fabric purchases....

My shopping at Girls Day in the Country was pretty reserved....
Kerry @ Cottage on the Hill had some great fabrics on sale at the shop so grabbed some bigger yardages.....
The bottom one could be a backing.... The middle I'm thinking it is sashing for a planned quilt and the top one 'just because'.....
the left is the lining for the block roll.........

bits and pieces.........
I've resisted this pincushion pattern but no longer...........
